Prototype UI/UX dashboard design

Briefing

Validify Access is a curated community platform for retailers and innovators to connect, build trust and speed up enterprise retail deals.

The overall aim was to build a product directory and portal that will enable retailers to;

Search for pre-vetting emerging technology vendors by category or tags

Vendor selection - communicate simple requirements via the platform to chosen vendors

Give retailers access to relevant content and provide simple community tools enabling retailers to endorse technology within the directory

Sketch wireframes

The first stage was to build a clickable prototype based on the stakeholders assumptions and then conduct user interviews with retailors and suppliers to get feedback and make adjustments to fit the users experience.

I started with sketching out wireframes and decided to create the standard left nav dashboard design that users are accustomed to.

Prototyping

Then, using their existing Validify brand styling, I designed the first prototype designs and created a clickable prototype using Marvel.

This was then used to test the idea with retailers and get buy-in from investors.

User testing

I worked alongside the Marketing consultant, Andrew Warren-Payne to conduct user interviews in-person and on-screen video calls to a selected list of potential retailers that would use this product.

“Andy helped take what was a selection of scribbles on paper through to a working, high-fidelity clickable prototype that we could test on users. And after validation, the transition from prototype to MVP was seamless.”

Realistic prototype designs

When designing these prototypes I always insist on using real content and not stock imagery or ‘lorem ipsum’. It has to look as real as possible for the user testing so we can gain better feedback and comments.

Refining the UI design

Some of the feedback from the user interviews showed that it was too busy. Retailers just wanted to search for what they needed first rather than a dashboard view. The left nav dashboard was later removed and the design updated to provide maximum screen space, with a focus on search

The user journey

Following the valuable feedback on the prototype design, we worked with the developers to fully map out the products user journey, from login, registration and search through to the supplier contact.  This clickable prototype was used to help showcase the product and secure additional investment to build out the full application.

Final UI design

The final UI designs were redesigned, with a refreshed brand style, These designs were then created using a mix of Adobe XD and Invision Studio with all assets ready for the developers to code.

“Knowing that Validify has curated and subsequently vetted all the technologies on their new platform, gives me added confidence when looking at a new technology solutions.”
